St Lucia is set to host its first Gay Pride Festival from 23-26 August 2019 with the theme ‘persist with pride’.

In a press release announcing the event, The Saint Lucia Pride Committee, said the theme was chosen as “an affirmation for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) community and supporters, as we stay the path towards the goal of full recognition.”

Some of the public activities planned during the festival include:

– A panel on ‘LGBTQ in Saint Lucia – Then and Now’

– Youth engagement on the ‘Meaning of Pride Beyond Sexual Orientation’

– A Pride family day and health fair

The family day and health fair will feature health talks and screenings, speeches, performances and giveaways.

Events planned specifically for LGBT people and their allies are a Pride Fashion Show and an Island Exploration adventure.

The logo for the festival features a heart-shaped splash in rainbow colours and black. The Committee said the aim of the logo is to “reflect the diversity of our human family. A black fist emerges with the passion of ongoing activism to achieve full recognition of the human rights of LGBT people in the Caribbean.”
